Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Gorham, ME

As men age, they experience both positive and negative changes. Many middle-aged men learn to let the little things go and focus on family and friendship. They develop new hobbies and reach their peak earning potential. On the flip side, many men undergo unexpected hormonal changes around this same age. That's a hard pill to swallow for a lot of males, but contrary to common belief, having low testosterone isn't reserved for elderly men.

Studies show that around 55% of males suffer from low testosterone. For many, that drop-off happens in their 40s and 50s. But the truth is that testosterone levels can start to decline as early as age 30, leading to various physical and emotional changes such as decreased energy, increased aches and pains, and even sexual performance issues.

If you're a man experiencing symptoms of low testosterone - like ED or erectile dysfunction - you may feel embarrassed, depressed, or like all hope is lost. Fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Male health clinics like Med Matrix offer advanced, FDA-approved treatments like testosterone replacement therapy in Gorham, ME, to help restore your hormone levels. When your hormones are balanced, it's almost like everything clicks back into place without having to take pills or suffer through surgery.

The Med Matrix Difference

Did you know that testosterone is the foundation of all male performance? It's the reason why, in your early 20s, you could have a fun night out on the town and wake up the next morning ready to hit the basketball court. It's the reason why you feel the drive to succeed and find a mate.

Unfortunately, testosterone levels start to decline around the age of 35 (and sometimes sooner, depending on various factors). Past that age, your T levels drop even more. 40% of men over 45 have sub-optimal levels, which can have a negative effect on things like your:

  • Energy Levels
  • Libido
  • Workout Recovery
  • Focus
  • Body Fat
  • Strength
  • Ability to Build Muscle
  • More

Many men approaching middle age aren't even aware that their testosterone levels are dropping. Other males simply don't care and begrudgingly accept the new, uninteresting life that looms in front of them. Today, however, more and more men are ditching that mindset and reclaiming their lives with testosterone replacement therapy in Gorham, ME.

How Does TRT Work?

One of the most common questions we get at Med Matrix is, "What does TRT do?" Testosterone replacement therapy does what its name implies: It's a science-backed therapy that replaces low testosterone levels in men. The main objective of going on a TRT regimen is to improve your life and wellbeing by balancing your hormones. Also referred to as androgen replacement therapy, TRT helps many men deal with and overcome the debilitating side effects of low T.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy works by giving your body the testosterone it needs to function properly. Without healthy levels of testosterone, the male body can't maintain the natural processes necessary for overall health. In fact, men with low testosterone levels are more prone to serious health problems such as type-2 diabetes and even heart disease.

Until their testosterone levels are restored to normal, most men suffer until they find a solution. That's where TRT comes into play. With balanced hormones, the body can finally begin to heal, causing most symptoms of low testosterone to diminish greatly.

Here are the 5 Biggest Benefits of Going on TRT in Gorham, ME

Up to this point, we've talked a bunch about how beneficial TRT can be for men who have declining testosterone levels. But you may be wondering how TRT specifically benefits you and your body. Here are just a few of the biggest benefits of starting testosterone replacement therapy at Med Matrix.

TRT Clinic Gorham, ME

Higher Levels of Energy

The effects of TRT are not immediate and may not be noticeable at first. However, typically, psychological improvements can be felt within three to four weeks of starting treatment. Most individuals experience reduced fatigue, improved sleep, and an overall feeling of being more rested after about a month of treatment. By this time, you may also notice increased motivation to engage in physical activities, which are crucial for your wellbeing and quality of life.

Better Sex Life

If there's one thing that men hate most about having low testosterone, it's that their ability to perform in the bedroom becomes compromised. In fact, diminished sexual function, including low sex drive and erectile dysfunction, is one of the most common reasons why men seek treatment for low T. That's for good reason: Recent research shows a strong correlation between libido and testosterone levels.

Fortunately, testosterone replacement therapy in Gorham, ME, can enhance healthy sexual relations with your spouse or partner. Increased testosterone levels in men often lead to increased sexual activity. At Med Matrix, many of our patients report having a higher sex drive within the first three to four weeks of treatment. Many men also reported having stronger and longer-lasting erections.

More Mental Clarity and Focus

Testosterone has a significant impact on cognitive performance, including memory, concentration, and reasoning. When testosterone levels are low, mental function can suffer. When you begin TRT, the heavy cloud that has been hanging over you can start to dissipate. Mental focus, cognition, and memory show signs of improvement after the first few weeks of treatment. Feelings of depression and sudden mood swings start to subside within three to six weeks. By 18 to 30 weeks, you will notice a significant improvement in self-confidence and mental clarity, as well as an inner strength that is more prepared to face life's challenges.

Normalized Blood Sugar Levels

When experiencing hypogonadism, your insulin sensitivity may be compromised, leading to fluctuations in blood sugar levels and an elevated risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Testosterone replacement therapy boosts your insulin sensitivity, enabling your body to efficiently absorb glucose from your blood after a meal.

Typically, significant improvements in blood glucose levels and insulin sensitivity are observed after about three months, with the full effect manifesting after a year. Also, remember this: TRT has been shown to increase your motivation. The tiniest spark of motivation can propel you to become more physically active, further boosting your insulin sensitivity.

Healthy Red Blood Cell Count

Your body produces red blood cells through a process called erythropoiesis. When you suffer from hypogonadism (low T), red blood cell production can slow, leading to anemia. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) can help improve red blood cell count, reduce fatigue, and stabilize blood pressure. Results may vary based on age and dosage, but improvements are typically noticeable after three months, with peak benefits at nine to 12 months.

We should note that some TRT patients have higher hematocrit levels than normal (>51%) and need to donate blood regularly as a result. That's why it's important to work with seasoned male health doctors - like those at Med Matrix - when you're considering TRT in Gorham, ME.

Build Bigger Muscles

Who doesn't want a great physique? Diet, rest, and exercise are crucial for success. However, when your testosterone levels drop below the normal range, your strength decreases, your body mass decreases, and your once-unstoppable endurance diminishes. Testosterone plays a key role in improving these areas.

Do You Have These Symptoms of Low Testosterone?

Are you used to blasting through your day with productivity and positivity? Have you noticed that you're losing muscle mass and the desire to be with your spouse? Has your partner been complaining that you're too irritable to be around? If you're usually not a curmudgeon, your body is probably trying to tell you something. It could be time to speak with a doctor about testosterone replacement therapy in Gorham, ME. Keep a running tally of whichever of the following symptoms you notice happening in your life.

Two words that send shivers down the spines of every man are "erectile dysfunction." Unfortunately, when your T levels are lower than they should be, this is one of the most common symptoms that men must endure. Being unable to get it up isn't just embarrassing - it can be downright depressing and lead to issues with mental health. It's a hard topic to discuss, but a personalized TRT plan from Med Matrix can help.

Decreased energy was once considered a normal part of aging. Nowadays, we know better. Most doctors understand that low energy levels can be linked to low testosterone levels. If you're finding it difficult to engage in activities you used to enjoy, like playing with your kids or going for a workout, it could be a sign of low testosterone. Sure, it's normal to feel tired from time to time. But persistent fatigue and a serious lack of drive might mean something more.

A study from 2011 revealed that men who lose a week's worth of sleep may experience a 15% reduction in testosterone levels. Additional research found that almost 15% of workers get five hours of sleep or less per night. These findings suggest that sleep loss can negatively impact testosterone levels and wellbeing. The big takeaway here is that men who have trouble sleeping often suffer from lower testosterone. If you find yourself exhausted at the end of the day but struggle to sleep through the night, you may be one of those men.

Many people over the age of 50 experience memory loss and lack of concentration. It's a normal part of aging. However, those signs can also mean you have low T. A study from 2006 discovered that males with low testosterone levels performed poorly on cognitive skill tests. This suggests that low testosterone can contribute to reduced cognitive ability. If you can't stay focused on tasks or can't recall words like you used to, have your testosterone levels checked. You could be a prime candidate for TRT.

If you're like millions of other men, coming to grips with hair loss isn't something you want to do. Closely related to hormone imbalances and testosterone decline, hair loss is stressful and embarrassing. It's often related to a derivative of testosterone called DHT. Too much DHT in your body can cause hair follicles to stop production, causing them to die. Because hair located at the front and crown is more sensitive to DHT, it grows slower than other follicles and eventually stops growing altogether. While you can't alter your genes, you can address low testosterone in your body. Whether you're suffering from thinning hair or hair loss across your entire head, TRT and solutions like peptides and stem cells can stop your head from shedding hair.

Gynecomastia, also known as "man boobs," is the enlargement of male breast tissue, often caused by hormonal imbalances and an increase in estrogen. Elevated estrogen levels during andropause, also known as male menopause, usually occur due to a lack of testosterone. If you're a man between 40 and 55 and feel embarrassed about having large breasts, ask your doctor about TRT. When combined with a healthy diet and exercise, it could be the solution to your problem without needing surgery.

I live in Gorham with my husband and our 10-month old daughter. I love our town and our community; it has been such a special place to raise our daughter and I can’t wait to continue to watch her grow up here. I feel so lucky to live in Gorham and I’m writing to encourage more of my neighbors to speak up to help protect our beloved community from the Maine Turnpike Authority.

My daughter is the luckiest – she gets to grow up in a community with woods, streams, fields, farms, friends as neighbors, safe streets where she’ll learn how to ride her bike and sidewalks where she’ll walk to school. I love walking on the trail by our home with her and trying to imagine how she sees it through her eyes: busy with green stuff in summer and crisp with white fluffy stuff in winter.

Abby King, a registered Maine guide, long-distance backpacker and backcountry skier, is a Gorham resident.

And I am the luckiest, too – I get to ski and hike and ride bikes on trails all over town, buy vegetables and ice cream from local farms and shops in our downtown, and visit beautiful places all over Gorham with my baby – who turns every ordinary walk along a stream or a brook into a delightful, silly adventure.

The turnpike expansion puts that all at risk.

I am terrified of what Gorham will become if the Maine Turnpike Authority wins its fight against our community. The Gorham Divider would be an epic mistake that will change the character of Gorham forever – there will be no coming back from it.

Highways bring more speeding cars. More cars mean more parking lots, gas stations, strip malls, drab office buildings, drive-thrus, asphalt, smog, noise. When you build a highway through a place, it changes that place forever. You can’t ever get back what you lose: whether that’s someone’s home that they built with their bare hands, the 300-year-old family farm that we are fortunate enough to be at today, trout in the brook, quiet fields, a quiet neighborhood.

Building a highway through Gorham means one thing: we lose Gorham as we know it.

It is just not possible to build a turnpike through a rural and residential part of town and have the things we love about it remain. If we build a highway here just like the one at the Maine Mall, our community will look just like … the highway at the Maine Mall. But we already have a mall, and it’s over there, so let’s protect places over here that are special, meaningful, important and beautiful.

Places matter, and Gorham is our place. What I think is that Gorham is full of families just like mine who also love what we love about this place, and there are many more who want to be here. I am excited about the ways our community is growing, but worried that the wrong kind of growth means more congestion. We have very real transportation challenges, and we need very real solutions. But the Maine Turnpike Authority’s plan is the wrong way to grow; it is a $250 million mistake that won’t solve our traffic problem, but will forever change this place – our place – for the worse.

Gorham Schools Shift April Release Day Due to Solar Eclipse

The Gorham Schools have rescheduled the April 3 Early Release Day to April 8, 2024, due to the solar eclipse, making April 3 a full day of school and April 8 an Early Release Day.

According to Superintendent Heather Perry, “The reason I am making this shift is due to the upcoming solar eclipse and primarily the issue of safety. Not that eclipses get to choose their timelines, but this one chose the absolute worst possible time to occur for schools. The eclipse is scheduled to occur at 3:28 p.m. on April 8 and will last between 5-6 minutes. If you know our bus schedules – you would know that that is smack dab in the middle of our PK-5 p.m. bus runs home.”

She continued, “Although Gorham is not in the direct path to view the 100% eclipse the eclipse view here in Gorham will be between 96-97%. It is most definitely enough to distract other drivers on the road. It is also enough to distract our own bus drivers who already have a very big and difficult job without an eclipse. Finally, it is enough to distract the almost 1000 students we will have on buses during that time with no ability to monitor that they are not looking out the windows into the eclipse out of sheer curiosity.”

Schools are hoping to ensure that students are settled and safely in one place for the eclipse and not on the roads during that time.

Solar Safety from NASA

Looking directly at the sun during a solar eclipse will cause immediate and permanent damage your eyes. DO NOT use cameras, binoculars, or the naked eye.

Make sure to use solar safe glasses that are labeled with language that says they meet the Transmission requirements of ISO 12312-2 Filters for an E15 Direct Observation of the Sun.

You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the Moon completely obscures the Sun’s bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You’ll know it’s safe when you can no longer see any part of the Sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.)

As soon as even a little bit of the bright Sun reappears after totality, immediately put your eclipse glasses back on or use a handheld solar viewer to look at the Sun.

If you are watching an entire eclipse, the Sun will still be very bright. You may be in direct sunlight for hours. Remember to wear sunscreen, a hat, and protective clothing to prevent skin damage.

GORHAM, Maine —

Mamma Mia, here Gorham High School goes again!

Every year, the school puts on an elaborate musical production and this year is no exception. This year they are presenting the high-energy show Mamma Mia. It features some of the most well-known hits from ABBA, including “Dancing Queen” and “Voulez-Vous.”

The story follows Sophie, a young woman’s searching for her birth father, and ends up inviting three possible candidates from her mother’s past.

The story is then told through extravagant musical numbers, all covers of songs by ABBA.

"I first of all love Mamma Mia the music is so fun, all the costumes are so fun it's set in Greece, it's just very high energy fun," said Hailey Racine, who plays as Ali, Sophie’s friend.

More than 20 students form the entire ensemble. They have been practicing since November, and commit nearly every day after school to rehearsals.

For many of them, it’s their passion for theater and performing that keeps them coming back every day.

"I feel like theater has really made me show who I am, it's really started to make me who I am. I have embraced myself through theater and it’s changed a lot for me," said Olivia Kennedy, one of the ensemble members.

The program goes all out every year. For example, last year for their musical production of Mary Poppins, they hired a company out of Las Vegas to be able to get some of the cast to fly.

Throughout the year, they spend a lot of time fundraising in order to make it all happen. The money goes towards the production, as well as their scholarship program which is given to a senior that chooses to pursue Musical Theater after high school.

If you’re interested in watching Gorham High School’s Mamma Mia, you can buy tickets ahead of time online, but if you miss that you may be able to get tickets at the door.

In November of 2022, I was elected by the great people of Gorham to serve as a Town Councilor. Having moved around so many times in my life, I am ecstatic to finally have a place to call home and a community to call my own. I plan on living right here in this house for the rest of my life.

Now, as 2023 ends, I am reflecting on my past year as a Town Councilor and what I learned. As I write this, I’m also looking at my two-month-old baby next to me and thinking about the future and the Gorham where she will grow up. This is the perfect opportunity to share three lessons I’ve learned over the past 12 months and what the next year holds.

Lesson 1: Change is Possible but Slow and Small

I often walk from my house over to Narragansett Elementary and back again. Along that walk are two green Garbage to Garden compost bins next to the pickleball courts. One of the first motions I put forward as a councilor was getting composting in Gorham. Seeing those green bins, free for anyone in town to use, reminds me that I can make change, even if it happens very slowly and in small ways. Change won’t happen overnight, but we can take incremental steps to make this town better every single day.

Lesson 2: Change is Hard and Preservation is Harder

This year I began reading the “History of Gorham Maine,” by Hugh McLellan. It’s a tome containing incredible details and anecdotes from even before settlers arrived on the land of what is now Gorham. Gorham has a spirit and a culture that I want to preserve, but the tools I have as a councilor to preserve and conserve land are very limited, especially when up against private property rights being leveraged by for-profit developers. This means to properly keep the spirit of Gorham strong, I need to work harder at creative solutions for funding, land, and ordinance changes. It will take all of us to preserve the Gorham we love.

Lesson 3: Some Change Needs to Come with Help from the State

When I speak to councilors in other towns, I hear stories that remind me Gorham isn’t alone in the problems we are facing. Many municipalities in Maine are struggling with housing costs, school budgets, and preserving farmland, just to name a few. Each town working alone will not be able to solve these problems. When “Gorham problems” are actually state-wide problems, that is when the state legislature needs to work on solutions, and it is on me to bring my voice, expertise, and perspective as a Town Councilor to help fix these problems for Gorham and our neighbors.

What does the next year look like?

For my next year as a councilor, and for the first year of my baby’s life, I think it is most important that we all stay optimistic, put in the work, and make positive changes where we can. What makes Gorham truly unique are the people; the volunteers and the town staff put in so much hard work, and no other town has such amazing people dedicated to their community. Seeing others care so much about Gorham is what keeps me going on tough days, and in the next year, I hope the work I do keeps you going on a tough day.

Please reach out if you want to talk about anything happening in town. You can email me at ssiegel@gorham.me.us, or call/text at (207) 200-7341.
