Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Cliff Island, ME

As men age, they experience both positive and negative changes. Many middle-aged men learn to let the little things go and focus on family and friendship. They develop new hobbies and reach their peak earning potential. On the flip side, many men undergo unexpected hormonal changes around this same age. That's a hard pill to swallow for a lot of males, but contrary to common belief, having low testosterone isn't reserved for elderly men.

Studies show that around 55% of males suffer from low testosterone. For many, that drop-off happens in their 40s and 50s. But the truth is that testosterone levels can start to decline as early as age 30, leading to various physical and emotional changes such as decreased energy, increased aches and pains, and even sexual performance issues.

If you're a man experiencing symptoms of low testosterone - like ED or erectile dysfunction - you may feel embarrassed, depressed, or like all hope is lost. Fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Male health clinics like Med Matrix offer advanced, FDA-approved treatments like testosterone replacement therapy in Cliff Island, ME, to help restore your hormone levels. When your hormones are balanced, it's almost like everything clicks back into place without having to take pills or suffer through surgery.

The Med Matrix Difference

Did you know that testosterone is the foundation of all male performance? It's the reason why, in your early 20s, you could have a fun night out on the town and wake up the next morning ready to hit the basketball court. It's the reason why you feel the drive to succeed and find a mate.

Unfortunately, testosterone levels start to decline around the age of 35 (and sometimes sooner, depending on various factors). Past that age, your T levels drop even more. 40% of men over 45 have sub-optimal levels, which can have a negative effect on things like your:

  • Energy Levels
  • Libido
  • Workout Recovery
  • Focus
  • Body Fat
  • Strength
  • Ability to Build Muscle
  • More

Many men approaching middle age aren't even aware that their testosterone levels are dropping. Other males simply don't care and begrudgingly accept the new, uninteresting life that looms in front of them. Today, however, more and more men are ditching that mindset and reclaiming their lives with testosterone replacement therapy in Cliff Island, ME.

How Does TRT Work?

One of the most common questions we get at Med Matrix is, "What does TRT do?" Testosterone replacement therapy does what its name implies: It's a science-backed therapy that replaces low testosterone levels in men. The main objective of going on a TRT regimen is to improve your life and wellbeing by balancing your hormones. Also referred to as androgen replacement therapy, TRT helps many men deal with and overcome the debilitating side effects of low T.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy works by giving your body the testosterone it needs to function properly. Without healthy levels of testosterone, the male body can't maintain the natural processes necessary for overall health. In fact, men with low testosterone levels are more prone to serious health problems such as type-2 diabetes and even heart disease.

Until their testosterone levels are restored to normal, most men suffer until they find a solution. That's where TRT comes into play. With balanced hormones, the body can finally begin to heal, causing most symptoms of low testosterone to diminish greatly.

Here are the 5 Biggest Benefits of Going on TRT in Cliff Island, ME

Up to this point, we've talked a bunch about how beneficial TRT can be for men who have declining testosterone levels. But you may be wondering how TRT specifically benefits you and your body. Here are just a few of the biggest benefits of starting testosterone replacement therapy at Med Matrix.

TRT Clinic Cliff Island, ME

Higher Levels of Energy

The effects of TRT are not immediate and may not be noticeable at first. However, typically, psychological improvements can be felt within three to four weeks of starting treatment. Most individuals experience reduced fatigue, improved sleep, and an overall feeling of being more rested after about a month of treatment. By this time, you may also notice increased motivation to engage in physical activities, which are crucial for your wellbeing and quality of life.

Better Sex Life

If there's one thing that men hate most about having low testosterone, it's that their ability to perform in the bedroom becomes compromised. In fact, diminished sexual function, including low sex drive and erectile dysfunction, is one of the most common reasons why men seek treatment for low T. That's for good reason: Recent research shows a strong correlation between libido and testosterone levels.

Fortunately, testosterone replacement therapy in Cliff Island, ME, can enhance healthy sexual relations with your spouse or partner. Increased testosterone levels in men often lead to increased sexual activity. At Med Matrix, many of our patients report having a higher sex drive within the first three to four weeks of treatment. Many men also reported having stronger and longer-lasting erections.

More Mental Clarity and Focus

Testosterone has a significant impact on cognitive performance, including memory, concentration, and reasoning. When testosterone levels are low, mental function can suffer. When you begin TRT, the heavy cloud that has been hanging over you can start to dissipate. Mental focus, cognition, and memory show signs of improvement after the first few weeks of treatment. Feelings of depression and sudden mood swings start to subside within three to six weeks. By 18 to 30 weeks, you will notice a significant improvement in self-confidence and mental clarity, as well as an inner strength that is more prepared to face life's challenges.

Normalized Blood Sugar Levels

When experiencing hypogonadism, your insulin sensitivity may be compromised, leading to fluctuations in blood sugar levels and an elevated risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Testosterone replacement therapy boosts your insulin sensitivity, enabling your body to efficiently absorb glucose from your blood after a meal.

Typically, significant improvements in blood glucose levels and insulin sensitivity are observed after about three months, with the full effect manifesting after a year. Also, remember this: TRT has been shown to increase your motivation. The tiniest spark of motivation can propel you to become more physically active, further boosting your insulin sensitivity.

Healthy Red Blood Cell Count

Your body produces red blood cells through a process called erythropoiesis. When you suffer from hypogonadism (low T), red blood cell production can slow, leading to anemia. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) can help improve red blood cell count, reduce fatigue, and stabilize blood pressure. Results may vary based on age and dosage, but improvements are typically noticeable after three months, with peak benefits at nine to 12 months.

We should note that some TRT patients have higher hematocrit levels than normal (>51%) and need to donate blood regularly as a result. That's why it's important to work with seasoned male health doctors - like those at Med Matrix - when you're considering TRT in Cliff Island, ME.

Build Bigger Muscles

Who doesn't want a great physique? Diet, rest, and exercise are crucial for success. However, when your testosterone levels drop below the normal range, your strength decreases, your body mass decreases, and your once-unstoppable endurance diminishes. Testosterone plays a key role in improving these areas.

Do You Have These Symptoms of Low Testosterone?

Are you used to blasting through your day with productivity and positivity? Have you noticed that you're losing muscle mass and the desire to be with your spouse? Has your partner been complaining that you're too irritable to be around? If you're usually not a curmudgeon, your body is probably trying to tell you something. It could be time to speak with a doctor about testosterone replacement therapy in Cliff Island, ME. Keep a running tally of whichever of the following symptoms you notice happening in your life.

TRT Men's Clinic Cliff Island, ME

Two words that send shivers down the spines of every man are "erectile dysfunction." Unfortunately, when your T levels are lower than they should be, this is one of the most common symptoms that men must endure. Being unable to get it up isn't just embarrassing - it can be downright depressing and lead to issues with mental health. It's a hard topic to discuss, but a personalized TRT plan from Med Matrix can help.

Decreased energy was once considered a normal part of aging. Nowadays, we know better. Most doctors understand that low energy levels can be linked to low testosterone levels. If you're finding it difficult to engage in activities you used to enjoy, like playing with your kids or going for a workout, it could be a sign of low testosterone. Sure, it's normal to feel tired from time to time. But persistent fatigue and a serious lack of drive might mean something more.

A study from 2011 revealed that men who lose a week's worth of sleep may experience a 15% reduction in testosterone levels. Additional research found that almost 15% of workers get five hours of sleep or less per night. These findings suggest that sleep loss can negatively impact testosterone levels and wellbeing. The big takeaway here is that men who have trouble sleeping often suffer from lower testosterone. If you find yourself exhausted at the end of the day but struggle to sleep through the night, you may be one of those men.

Many people over the age of 50 experience memory loss and lack of concentration. It's a normal part of aging. However, those signs can also mean you have low T. A study from 2006 discovered that males with low testosterone levels performed poorly on cognitive skill tests. This suggests that low testosterone can contribute to reduced cognitive ability. If you can't stay focused on tasks or can't recall words like you used to, have your testosterone levels checked. You could be a prime candidate for TRT.

If you're like millions of other men, coming to grips with hair loss isn't something you want to do. Closely related to hormone imbalances and testosterone decline, hair loss is stressful and embarrassing. It's often related to a derivative of testosterone called DHT. Too much DHT in your body can cause hair follicles to stop production, causing them to die. Because hair located at the front and crown is more sensitive to DHT, it grows slower than other follicles and eventually stops growing altogether. While you can't alter your genes, you can address low testosterone in your body. Whether you're suffering from thinning hair or hair loss across your entire head, TRT and solutions like peptides and stem cells can stop your head from shedding hair.

Gynecomastia, also known as "man boobs," is the enlargement of male breast tissue, often caused by hormonal imbalances and an increase in estrogen. Elevated estrogen levels during andropause, also known as male menopause, usually occur due to a lack of testosterone. If you're a man between 40 and 55 and feel embarrassed about having large breasts, ask your doctor about TRT. When combined with a healthy diet and exercise, it could be the solution to your problem without needing surgery.

Home » Explore Norway » Magerøya Island: The Very North of Norway

This stark yet stunning Arctic landscape is home to the iconic North Cape and is a haven for wildlife. Here’s a thorough introduction to Norway’s remote Magerøya, the land of the midnight sun.

On a recent trip to Northern Norway, I paid another visit to Honningsvåg and the North Cape. It always surprises me that so many people rush to see the Cape, and then get back on the bus or ship, without much more thought as to where they are.

That’s because for me, my visits here have always left me with memories not of the small town or the clifftop, but of the island itself. Magerøya island is desolate on the one hand, but starkly beautiful on the other. It is Arctic Norway in a nutshell.

Introducing Magerøya

Nestled in the Arctic reaches of Norway, Magerøya Island beckons travelers with its rugged cliffs, breathtaking vistas, and the glow of the midnight sun and northern lights.

While many flock to Honningsvåg and on to the North Cape, it’s well worth slowing down and exploring this northern island in more detail. That may surprise you given the island’s lack of trees, but there’s more to Magerøya than just rocks.

You’ll find tiny coastal communities, hiking opportunities, wonderful views, and exciting wildlife and birdlife. From the bird cliffs of Gjesværstappan, home to thousands of seabirds, to the serene beauty of Skarsvåg, the northernmost fishing village in the world, Magerøya is varied and vibrant.

Highlights of Magerøya

Beyond its famous landmark, the island offers starknatural beauty, quaint villages, and rich birdlife, inviting travellers to explore its lesser-known yet still captivating attractions. Even so, we have to start with the world-famous clifftop.

The North Cape, or Nordkapp, is a monumental cliff plunging into the Arctic Ocean, marking one of the northernmost points of mainland Europe.

This natural landmark draws visitors from around the globe, who come to witness the midnight sun that bathes the landscape in a surreal, continuous daylight throughout summer, or the dramatic snow-covered landscapes in the winter.

On a clear day, standing at the North Cape feels like standing at the edge of the world, offering a profound sense of awe and connection with nature. The North Cape Hall, perched on the cliff's edge, offers exhibits, a cinema, a cafe, and a large gift shop.

The arrival point for almost everyone travelling to Magerøya, Honningsvåg has a lot more to offer than just a waystation. The fishing village, really a town, is surprisingly busy. Traditional fishing boats share the bustling harbour with cruise ships, while international flair blends with local charm.

Honningsvåg's cultural scene is surprisingly rich, featuring the Nordkapp Museum, which delves into the area's fishing heritage and wartime history, and a local cultural centre home to a local amateur play about tourists visiting the North Cape.

Despite its remote location, Honningsvåg offers a warm welcome with cozy restaurants, shops, galleries, and accommodations, making it an integral part of the Magerøya experience.

Dining on the island is a culinary adventure, with local specialties such as reindeer, king crab, and freshly caught fish all available in Honningsvåg. Don't miss the chance to sample traditional dishes and Arctic delicacies.

Off the northern coast of Magerøya, Gjesværstappan stands as an awe-inspiring natural wonder. Home to one of Europe's most accessible seabird colonies, these cliffs are a bustling metropolis of avian life.

Visitors can marvel at thousands of puffins, kittiwakes, and majestic sea eagles. Accessible via boat tours from the nearby fishing village of Gjesvær, this excursion offers an unforgettable experience of Arctic nature.

Gjesvær itself, a serene fishing village, embodies the heart and soul of Magerøya's coastal culture. This charming settlement, with its handful of accommodations and small grocery store, offers a taste of local life.

It's a perfect spot for those seeking peace and authenticity, away from the crowds. The village is also a fantastic base for exploring the surrounding nature, by boat or by hitting the hiking trails.

Claiming the title of Norway’s northernmost fishing village, Skarsvåg is a haven for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.

It’s home to unique attractions like the Christmas House and the Kirkeporten rock formation, which offers spectacular views and photo opportunities especially at sunset.

With opportunities for fishing, hiking, and immersing in local hospitality, Skarsvåg presents itself as a quintessential stop for Megerøya adventurers and peace-seekers alike.

This tiny fishing village is a hidden jewel on Magerøya’s rugged coastline. Known for its arts scene, highlighted by the East of the Sun Gallery, it offers visitors a cultural insight into the island through the eyes of local artists.

Getting to Magerøya

Travelling to the island is an adventure in itself, no matter what your preferred mode of transport.

Whether you're driving through the mesmerising landscapes of Northern Norway or taking a ferry across the Arctic waters, each route offers its own unique views and experiences.

For drivers, the undersea tunnel connecting the mainland to the island makes the journey seamless, bringing you directly into the heart of Magerøya. If you prefer to fly, the small Honningsvåg Airport connects you with Tromsø.

In 1732, 16 farming families from the Spanish Canary Islands arrived at San Antonio de Béxar and created the foundation for modern-day San Antonio. About 240 years later, Houston was born in San Antonio.

“I have 600 years of rum DNA in my body,” she says.

Houston, an Oak Cliff native who swears Gonzalez on Jefferson has the best flour tortillas, is the co-owner of Island Getaway Rum and the first Latina to own a distillery in Texas.

This is also a good time to mention she was a history major at the University of Texas.

Before she lived in Austin for the first time, she grew up living with her single mom and sister in an apartment located between Wynnewood and Kiest Park. Houston remembers going to Kidd Springs as a child.

“I love to go back there and kind of walk around that little lake and just reminisce about those days when I wasn’t thinking about payroll and property taxes,” she says.

She went to St. Elizabeth Elementary School — where she still goes to light a candle every time she’s back home — and graduated from Skyline High School before heading off to UT.

When she came back to Dallas, she started working in student services for ITT Tech. She left to work at an ad agency. Then one of her clients recruited her to work for his medical staffing company.

“My first day of work, I really wasn’t even sure what I was going to be doing,” she says. “I didn’t understand what he was even saying to me about what the job was.”

Houston was 27 years old when she and four colleagues left that company to found Platinum Select Healthcare Staffing in 2001. According to a 2004 Dallas Business Journal article, the company grew fast — $10 million in revenue in 2002, $15.1 million in 2003 and more than $24 million in 2004. In less than seven years, the company was worth $52 million with over 700 employees across the nation. The five sold the company in 2008 to MN Allied Services — right before the economy tumbled.

What do you do when you walk away with a bundle of cash from selling a medical staffing company?

Well, you take a repair shop and convert it into music-venue -and-bar LaGrange in Deep Ellum.

“It was a passion project for me. I loved doing every single second of it,” Houston says.

The project was losing money. It didn’t matter that it was winning “Best of” awards or that even The New York Times noticed its popularity. In a 2010 article, LaGrange was highlighted as one of the places bringing “the groove back” to Deep Ellum with its indie rock lineup.

“But I hated losing all the money that I had,” Houston says. “I think one day somebody said, ‘You know, Stephanie, you can’t just keep throwing money at stuff.’ I was thinking, ‘Ah, I hadn’t really thought of that.’”

She decided to move on in 2013. LaGrange transformed into Three Links. Houston decided to move back to Austin.

“I’ll be honest, when I came back to Austin, I was really in a complete crisis,” she says. “I just didn’t know what I was gonna do. I was running out of money. I was just lost.”

An old friend from Dallas she knew from working in Deep Ellum was starting a winery in the Hill Country. After they connected on Facebook, she went to the winery for a day to work.

He mentioned a rum project he had been working on with someone else.

“I said, ‘Hey, if y’all are serious about doing this, and you need an investor, you need a business person, tell me about it,” Houston says. “Please include me.”

But he and his business partner had it covered. They were good.

He called a few months later. She immediately asked if it was “Rum time?” No, he needed a dog sitter.

Then he called again. She immediately asked if it was “Rum time?” No, he needed someone to watch the winery while he was on a ski trip.

He called a few months later. It was rum time.

Houston cut an investment check $30,000. With a total of $61,000 (according to a 2018 Forbes article, you need about $200,000 to start a distillery), the three partners started filing the paperwork, finding a property and working on their recipes in 2016. It took 18 months to be licensed federally and at the state level.

They were down to their last dollars by the time they opened the distillery and tasting room in Hye, Texas, located east of Fredericksburg, near the Garrison Brothers distillery.

“It’s not a cheap business,” she says.

The company started as Hye Rum, using Louisiana molasses to produce the white rum that serves as the foundation for their spirits. It’s also available in its own bottle.

“It is just this big, bold, fiery rum, as rum is supposed to be,” she says. “You can taste the rum, but it also just balances all of the other flavors in the cocktails.”

Island Getaway was the first cocktail on their tasting menu and it inspired their eponymous line of flavored rums.

By 2019, Houston and partner/distiller James Davidson bought out the project’s originator. They brought in a small group of friends, a few from Oak Cliff, to invest. Then Houston and Davidson bought them out.

Then like everyone else, the pandemic brought them to a standstill. Their product was sitting on shelves and they weren’t seeing any foot traffic in their tasting room. And like every bar and booze-producing company, they were going to get hit with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission’s mixed beverage gross and sales taxes on March 20, 2020. Houston launched a petition to suspend the tax during the pandemic, according to an Eater Austin article. The petition garnered more than 99,000 signatures.

They pivoted to making sanitizer — their rum is 69% alcohol by volume — after the federal government gave distilleries clearance. Houston says they made 52 tons of hand sanitizer to donate.

Then in 2021, they moved the distillery to Dripping Springs, closer to Austin, since they were burning through gas and wearing themselves out in the more-than-hour-long commute. It wasn’t efficient to have two rum brands, so they merged the Hye Rum into Island Getaway Rum.

“For me, rum reminds me of getting away,” Houston says. “So we wanted to inspire people with the kind of feeling that you get when you hit an island and you see that sunset and you’re sitting on that beach with your frozen drink.”

It’s eight years in. This might be the first year Island Getaway Rum is in the black. It’s a family affair at this point. Houston’s sister and son work at the distillery. Island Getaway Rum is available at Spec’s. They have plans for exporting internationally with the first stop in Tokyo.

“I think it’s some of that survivor mentality. It allows me to look at ways outside of the box on how to do a lot with a little,” she says. “I would love for us to have the right investment dollars to be able to really just take our gloves off and go. But that hasn’t been our experience. We’ve had to be as scrappy as possible.”

A man on Portland's Cliff Island is on a mission to connect people to pollinators.

That is actually Andrew MacDonald's motto and he has created what he calls "Bee Huggah" as he tries to inspire other people to raise honey bee colonies and help them get going.

"I'm blessed to have this property on Cliff Island," MacDonald said. "This environment here is an amazing place to raise bees."

McDonald has been raising bees since he was 5 years old, starting on his parents' honey bee farm. Now, he has his own property and is currently raising four colonies, equivalent to about 70,000 bees.

He is sharing his long-time fascination with beekeeping and mentoring a new generation of beekeepers.

"My hope is to have the next generation really embrace what we're doing and they jump on board," MacDonald said.

MacDonald said he is not an alarmist but points to the documented decline in the honey bee population as a reason to recruit new beekeepers.

"At Bee Huggah, our main goal is to get people connected with pollinators," MacDonald said.

Get the Duck Boats ready! Celtics championship parade is Friday

He launched a program he calls Adopt a Hive and is looking for businesses, communities or landowners to volunteer. MacDonald then helps finance and build the news hives and teaches proper techniques for taking care of them.

"What we're hoping for is someone from the community or employee then to become involved in the basics of beekeeping on the ground level here so that person who becomes engaged in the bees has the resources to be able to learn and get off the ground with it," he said.

He is doing what he can to help sustain honey bees, but says it takes a lot of work and can be expensive.

He's hoping that, through Bee Huggah, other people will realize it is a price worth paying to help the pollinators continue their vital role in nature.

"There's a ton of work that goes into maintaining a given bee hive, and there's a lot of need for other people to get involved and that's where my passion is at," MacDonald said.

As part of his Adopt a Hive program, MacDonald will spend six months with someone, teaching them the skills of beekeeping.

Jimmy Cliff’s iconic cover of Johnny Nash’s 1972 classic I Can See Clearly Now just surpassed 100 million views on YouTube – the first of the Reggae icon’s songs to do so on the platform. Meanwhile, over on Spotify, the song had long surpassed the 100 million mark, currently sitting with over 147 million plays.

The original I Can See Clearly Now had Cliff’s imprint on it, even before his manager David Sonenberg was approached in 1993 with the opportunity for the singer to work on the cover for the soundtrack of the film Cool Runnings. Three years ago, while discussing his relationship with Johnny Nash in the wake of the American singer’s passing, Jimmy Cliff told DancehallMag that he had been intimately familiar with the track – 21 years before he would go on to do a cover of it.

“I was actually at Island Studios in London when ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ was recorded. I actually played bongo drums on the [original] track,” Cliff shared.

The 78-year-old singer, whose real name is James Chambers, also revealed that his version of the song, which is his highest charting single in the US and his third highest in the UK, almost didn’t come to be.

“The company actually wanted me to do You Can Get It If You Really Want,” Cliff recalled, “but Sonenberg said no, he wanted that song for our movie that we would be doing.”

He continued: “He suggested to them, ‘How about doing ‘I Can See Clearly Now’?’ I never told Johnny at the time I was doing it. I didn’t have to tell him as it would just go through his publishing company.”

Jimmy Cliff, whose friendship with Nash began while he had been living in London, said that the two had a bit of a reunion years after Nash’s original recording of the Gold-certified hit.

“I saw him years later after he did the original recording of ‘I Can See Clearly Now’, and he said ‘Remember we recorded the song at Island’. I said ‘You remember that?’ He said, ‘I remember that, I remember more too’, and we laughed,” he said.

Further reminiscing on that reunion, Cliff added: “Then I said, ‘I have a song for you’, and he came back at me sharp and said, ‘I have a song for you too’, like he was saying you think I can’t write songs, I can write one for you too. He was just a really very nice bredrin.”

“I met him in England years ago when I used to reside there. Danny Simms had a house in London, and we used to meet up around there and hang out and we became friends.”

In October 2020, Johnny Nash, who had been in declining health, died of natural causes at home in Houston, Texas at age 80.

His original I Can See Clearly Now reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 1972, helping to bring Reggae music to a mainstream audience in the United States.

Cliff’s version went to No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1994, spending a total of 25 weeks on the chart. It is ranked at No. 38 on the DancehallMag‘s list of the most streamed Jamaican songs of all time.

His previous entries on the Hot 100 chart were Wonderful World, Beautiful People, which peaked at No. 25 in 1970, and Come Into My Life, which peaked at No. 89 in 1970.

In the UK, Cliff’s I Can See Clearly Now went to No. 23 on the Singles Chart in 1994. His highest charting songs in the country are Wonderful World, Wonderful People, which peaked at No. 6 in 1969, and Wild World, which peaked at No. 8 in 1970.
