Patient Story
Better Than Before After a Leg Injury
Summary
A bad leg injury about five years ago left Ryan heavier and feeling stuck. He says a gym plan plus Med Matrix together got him back better than before. He works in healthcare himself and was a little nervous about being the patient instead of the provider. He trains at a gym in Falmouth with Brian, who also works at Med Matrix and mentioned the clinic as the other half of the plan. He came in with what he calls an amorphous plan and left his first visit with a concrete personalized one, with check-ins and checkpoints along the way. He says the improvement started once people looked at his whole body rather than only the injury.
Before Med Matrix
- A bad leg injury about five years before the interview; the lower extremity injury made working out very difficult
- Gained a lot of weight after the injury
- Had a lot of issues getting back to what he calls his normal active settings
- Felt very stuck
- Reached a point where he realized he could not do it on his own and needed some guidance
- Says a lot of what is out there is fads and not sustainable
- Was very focused on the specific part of the injury and neglected a lot of the other parts
- Works in healthcare himself, so being the patient rather than the provider felt weird and made him a little nervous coming in
Results
- Says the gym plan and Med Matrix together got him back better than he was before, after feeling very stuck
- Says dealing with what he came in for now feels "kind of like auto"
- Says the improvement started once people looked at more of it from the whole body perspective rather than only the injury
- Left his first provider visit with a concrete personalized plan after going in with an amorphous one
- Says he uses the InBody at both the gym and Med Matrix to track his goal of changing fat to muscle, with the phone app to check from home
- Gets questions answered as soon as he needs them and does not feel like he is doing this alone
- Feels this is a sustained pathway he can do for the long term, which matters to him because he was never looking for a short-term fix
Key Quotes
“It's weird to be a patient because I'm usually the provider, so it's funny to be on the other side of things, but I found it to be very welcoming, non-judgmental cuz I think people come here for different reasons, and some of them are very personal and even sometimes embarrassing”
“I was at a point that I realized I couldn't do it on my own and needed some guidance.”
“I went in with sort of an amorphous plan of what I thought I might wanted and I came out with a concrete personalized plan, which felt that there were achievable steps to get through as opposed to sort of all I'll sell you this and then never talk with you again.”
“once I had that experience of people looking at more of it the from the whole body perspective, the improvement started.”
