Elizabeth sleeping well without pain and more muscle

Summary

Elizabeth B., a former dental hygienist and longtime health-minded person, came to Med Matrix after years of sleep deprivation and health neglect while serving as a caregiver for her mother following multiple surgeries. Through comprehensive testing including blood panels and a stool test, she identified gut issues and received targeted supplements and peptides that resolved her sleep problems, improved her workouts, reduced GI issues, and led to a gluten-free diet that made a significant difference.

Before Med Matrix

  • Severely sleep deprived for years (caring for mother for 26 months, three days and four nights per week)
  • Could only sleep about 5 to 6 hours per night, often broken
  • Slept best between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. (disrupted circadian rhythm)
  • Tossing and turning due to pain when lying down
  • Frequent waking at 2 or 3 a.m.
  • GI issues
  • Multiple surgeries in 2018 requiring heavy antibiotics, disrupting her system
  • Guessing at supplements and treatments without a clear plan
  • Lifting weights regularly but seeing no muscle definition despite training hard

Results

  • Now sleeps from approximately 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. (around 8 hours), feeling well-rested
  • Can lie in any position without pain
  • Mind more relaxed, less anxiety
  • Better overall sense of wholeness
  • Workouts noticeably better (heavier lifting, more definition)
  • Making better food decisions
  • GI issues improving
  • Discovered gluten sensitivity through stool test; gluten-free diet making a difference
  • Less guessing, more certainty about what her body needs

Key Quotes

I can actually lay down and nothing hurts. Fall asleep. It's amazing. I can lay in any position, right side, left side, on my back. I would toss and turn for a long time trying to get comfortable.

There's less guessing. Because I guessed. It's like, oh, I have this symptom, I'm going to take that for that. Having that clarity, that certainty.

Don't hesitate. It just takes all the guesswork out. You can't put a price on your health.

Insurance limits us. It really limits us. I would say don't hesitate and if you can do it, it's going to make a difference.

So what was like your initial kind like motivation to come to Med Matrix? I've been healthminded all my life. Yeah. I was a dental hygienist for years and um gave a lot of health advice from that chair. Yeah. Um but uh one of the things that I said along the way was make sure you take care of the caregiver because a lot of my patients were caregivers. Well then I became a caregiver and uh and didn't do well with my own health. Kind of guessed along the way. you know, I if I was going to read something, it would be, you know, something about, you know, something medical or something health-minded or that kind of thing. And this was how long ago? Oh, all my life. Um, when I couldn't really take care of myself, it was I was taking care of my mother and I was very sleepd deprived. She had had a stroke and uh so I spent three days and four nights every week for 26 months uh taking care of her, my sisters and I kept her at home. So I really was not myself. I had had a surgery in 2018 and I needed a lot of antibiotics for that. It was a main three major surgeries kind of messed up my system a little bit and so I couldn't really and I couldn't take care of me. Mh. And so I did a lot of guess work along the way. I'm like, "Oh, that supplement or this article, I'm going to try that." And then I'm like, "Okay, I got to be more specific." Mhm. And so I came here and with the testing uh that was done, it was it's made a difference for sure. Uh in my sleep, I can actually lay down and nothing hurts. Fall asleep. That's awesome. It's amazing. Yeah. Yeah. And I can lay in any position, right side, left side, on my back. It's kind of different really. But I would toss and turn for a long time. Yeah. Trying to get comfortable. You know, my mind seems more relaxed, less anxiety. There's a I have a better feeling like a whole feeling. So anyway, that's where I'm at. Pretty awesome. What was So before that it was just like sleep was really difficult or was it I would wake up a lot or I'd have a hard time falling asleep. Yeah. And I'd be awake, you know, 3:00 on 2 a.m. on whatever. Um I think my body didn't know how to sleep. How much sleep on average were you getting back when it was troublesome? So when I was taking care of my mother, I was always almost three nights a week. Oh my gosh. Yeah. And then after that, and then when I would come home, cuz we took care of her in her house. Um I don't think my body knew how. Maybe 5 hours, 6 hours if that, but it was a lot of times broken. I slept the best from like 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Mhm. Whatever. For whatever reason, I could, but that you know, and I couldn't always do that either. Yes. Okay. And then so now how many hours of sleep would you say you're getting? I go to bed I'm tired. I go to bed um around 9 and I wake up around 5. Nice. Yeah. And you feel good in the morning? I feel much better. Yeah. Yeah. Very rested. Mhm. Yeah. That's great. And then how is just like obviously sleep is so important when now that you're sleeping better like how else has that showed up for you? Well, um I you know you kind of make better decisions along the way. Um I've always exercised. I'm a weightlifter. Mhm. Um but um I I lift heavy weights. Yeah. Good. And uh those workouts are better for sure. Um I don't know. I probably make better food decisions too. Yeah. Sleep is important and I prior I try to prioritize it now. Mhm. Yeah. That's awesome. Um what about the care side of things? Just like working with you know the team here with the nurses with doctors. Everybody's great. Yeah. Um yeah friendly, knowledgeable. um lot of follow-ups, you know, I've made some phone calls here and they have or or or um on the portal uh connected with on the portal and you know might not might be a Saturday I send it. So Monday morning I get a a response but always a good response and then even when I have a you know a tele health meeting I get a I get a followup from you guys. That's that's great. Mhm. All positive. That's good. So you feel like the support has been kind of what you would want with your healthcare. Yes. And there's less guessing. Yeah. Because I guessed. Yeah. It's like oh I have this symptom. Oh I'm going to take that for that. Yeah. What did that I mean just like having more clarity certainty. I think a lot of patients they kind of like, you know, they're going to their normal doctor and they're not really getting the help they want, so they're trying to do it on their own is it can feel overwhelming. Like what was that like for you kind of like having that clarity? Uh, well, my my doctor is a primary care like a um like a direct care physician. Okay. She actually listens and Oh, that's good. Yeah. Um and she's great. Yeah. Um she has all my information from here I sent. Um and she's all for it, you know, coming here. But they don't test as much, you know. They still have their limited testing like thyroid for instance and so there's more testing for that. I've requested other like a stool test from here and that happened. Um so but my primary care I I can't complain about her. She's great. Yeah. I direct primary care is definitely different than the whole insurance. It's definitely different. So we just pay a monthly nut and go you know when we need it. Nice. You got to figure it out. Um, and then what was um, I guess would you talking about some of the things you did that were different that maybe you didn't know about whether it was like vitamins or I don't know if you did any peptides or hormones or anything like that. Right. I did start some I started so many things and it's all helped. I can't give you one specific. Okay. Uh, but the peptides and I'm doing eltheanine powder. I feel like I'm getting stronger. The other part is um I was lifting three four times a week. Um I just didn't I just didn't have any definition. I I do have uh some more a little bit more definition. Good. Yeah. Um but um I feel like it's a lot of the supplements that's helping. That's awesome. GI issues I had. Mhm. I still have some. Mhm. Um but they're improving to with things that I'm taking. Yeah. What was that like doing like you mentioned the stool test. What was that like doing some of that testing you've never done before? Um, I've done a fit test. Okay. So, I've done some of that at home anyway through my direct care. Um, so it was easy. Collect it. I mean, the tool this the the the uh test is sent home. It's all done at home and then out it goes in the mail. I was surprised a little bit by some of the things that were on it. Um, and I'm grateful for the thoroughess. I am now a gluten-free person. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. It'll make a difference. Yeah, my I have a stepdaughter and a daughter who are both gluten-free, so we've kind of eaten that way anyway. Um they're out of the house and grown now, but um yeah, I I don't have a problem eating gluten-free. Okay. Yeah, great. Um and then with just like with Dr. Rose and kind of the team, like a lot of these things can be overwhelming, like we do look at a lot of stuff, right? Like how how do you feel that was like when things were getting described to you as far as like your health, the treatment options like how do you feel the team did at like kind of ed educating you about your health? Excellent. They you know looking at the testing and saying this is it presents itself and then um and then they're they were saying this is what you can take and this is what you can do and um it made a difference. Yeah. Yeah. It was very helpful. Yeah. Good. Yeah, I think on patients understanding is just important, right? If you don't understand what you're doing, it's right. And I don't know. I mean, because I again, if I'm going to pick up something, it's going to be a journal about health. I mean, that's just kind of how I have been. Yeah. Um Um So I Did you bring any of your own ideas to the appointment? Just curious. Questions like Yeah. So I wasn't sure if I had parasites. Um which I didn't. Surprised, but I thought I would. I have dogs that just lick my face. Yeah, sure. Um I specifically, you know, I specifically wanted to do a stool test. I said, "Okay." Um I didn't know about peptides, heard about them. I never, you know, thought to use them. Yeah. Um and uh so that that was something I didn't ask about, but it was good to know. Yeah. Your son probably knows about him, right? He seems like he's in I told him what I'm taking and he's like, "Oh, good, good, good." Yeah, that's awesome. Pretty cool. Yeah. Um, sweet. And then last question, just for like, you know, patients who are watching this and considering kind of working with us as a patient, what would your advice be to them? Oh, don't hesitate. I think it it just takes all the guesswork out. Mhm. And having those specific, you know, thorough blood tests done or stool tests or whatever testing is done. Yeah. Um, those are the things that I've had done. I wouldn't hesitate. Um, I'm sure people think, "Oh, I I want to do only work that or only work for my body or whatever that my insurance will cover and all that." Um, and it limits us. It really limits us, I think. So, um, I would say, you know, don't hesitate and if you can do it, it's going to You can't put a price on your health. I agree. Yep. Yeah. Yep. So, awesome, Elizabeth. Thank you so much for taking time. I appreciate. Sure. Yeah. You're very welcome.
