Patient Story
Cat: weight loss, gut issues, menopause, anxiety
Summary
Cat, a type 1 diabetic and former fitness instructor, spent three years suffering through severe menopausal symptoms while conventional doctors kept increasing her estrogen and dismissing her concerns. Blood testing at Med Matrix revealed she actually needed progesterone and testosterone in addition to estrogen, plus had significant inflammation. After roughly six months on a balanced hormone protocol and targeted supplements, her weight stabilized, sleep improved, anxiety resolved, moods balanced, and she feels like herself again. Med Matrix also resolved a gut issue in two months with two supplements, where her primary care had been unable to diagnose it after months of testing.
Before Med Matrix
- Type 1 diabetes
- Severe menopausal symptoms for approximately 3 years: hot flashes, weight gain, exhaustion, arthritic pain, anxiety
- Former fitness instructor, but unable to work out consistently due to symptoms
- Conventional OB and PCP kept increasing estrogen, which worsened symptoms
- Felt gaslit by doctors: "This is menopause. You're getting older. This is normal."
- Extreme internal inflammation discovered at first visit
- Separate gut issue that primary care was unable to diagnose (suspected colitis or food allergies)
- Family history of early heart disease
Results
- Weight stabilized; bloat and excess weight resolved
- Sleep improved significantly
- Mood regulation dramatically better (husband confirmed)
- Anxiety resolved without going on anxiety medication
- More energy
- Able to work out and exercise again
- Gut issue resolved within two months (vs. months of inconclusive testing from primary care)
- Feels like she got herself back
- Feels genuinely heard and trusted by her providers for the first time

So I so I first of all I'm a type 1 diabetic um and I was suffering horribly with uh menopausal symptoms. I was gain you know I was a fitness instructor prior to that but I was suffering with a lot of arthritic pain, exhaustion, gaining weight, uh hot flashes, I mean you name it, every worst symptom in the book. And when I kept going back to my insurance, paying general PCP and OB, they just kept giving me more and more estrogen, which seemed to actually make the symptoms a whole lot worse, and I was feeling really, really terrible. Uh, which is why I started with you guys. Now, I've done a whole bunch of things with you guys because I've helped myself out in different arenas, different areas. Um, but when we did the blood testing, uh, we found that there was like a huge amount of inflammation that I actually needed progesterone and testosterone. Um, so now I'm on all three and it has for me been a lifecher. I mean, like I lost I wouldn't say it was like a drastic weight loss, but I was able to keep the the bloat and the weight off. I was able to sleep. My moods are so much better. um much better energy. Um I I mean prior to it, I was so anxious that I was really looking at getting on an anxiety medication and then now I know that that was a function of my hormone. Um and I don't I don't feel like that anymore. I feel great. Wow. So excited to hear that for you. So, how has that um improved overall quality of life for you? Um, well, I mean, for I for a woman who's going through menopause and you just keep going back to the doctors and they keep gaslighting you because that's how I felt. They kept saying, "Well, this is menopause. Well, you're getting older. Well, this is normal." Um, I felt really unheard. So, I felt like coming to you guys, it was the first time somebody actually believed my story. And it's just it's just everything's better. I mean, it's it's mood regulation. It's sleeping. It's um ability to work out and exercise. It's just life. Like, I feel like I got myself back basically. Oh my gosh. Love to hear that. So, how long was it that you were like just not feeling like yourself before you, you know, I'd say like a good three years. Wow. Three years. And then when you started working with us, how long, like what did the timeline of just kind of health look like for you? Was it like a week, a month, multiple months before you started feeling better? How did that look? Well, it's so it's funny because it's subtle, right? It's not like the light switch where you're like, "Oh, yeah." Um, so I would say like I started on um some supplements which have helped and the hormones. It probably wasn't until like a good probably good six months into it and then I was it. like one of those things that's so subtle that you don't actually realize it until you look back and then you're like, "Oh, wow. Yeah, I feel a whole lot better." That's awesome. I mean, even even my husband will tell you that my moods are all times better, right? Yeah. Yeah. Thank you for sharing. Um, so for someone who's, you know, kind of going through similar things as far as like they're going to their normal doctor, they're feeling gas lit, they feel like their health is just, um, you know, kind of declined and they're considering working with MedMatrix as a patient. What would your recommendation to them be? Um, so here's what I tell people and I, so I actually researched a couple different programs. Um, what I really like about Med Matrix is it's very patient centered. So, I, you know, I came in and said, "I really want to work on the hormones first." You guys didn't try to upsell me. You guys didn't try to like say, "Well, what about this? What about that?" Um, which I've heard other people have had that experience. So, um, is that answering your question? What was the question? No, I just That was great. Yeah. Yeah. Like I just I think it's just very they're like, "What do you want to work on?" and they take your lead, which um and there's also places that do this that are extremely extremely expensive. So, I guess my suggestion would be just try it, right? I mean, you do the initial panel of blood work, which is more information than you're going to get from any blood work that you get from your insurance doctor. That's going to that that in and of itself is really valuable and that will help you make some decisions about your health. Mhm. So, I know this sounds crazy, but um I tell so so the the amazing thing about working with you guys, and that's what I mean. You I think you feel more educated as a consumer. You feel more in control of your health. You feel like people are really listening to you, but I also think there's a level of anger about that. So, I know for me, um and again, there's no science out there. I I I'm not sure how to what this what what it is medically behind this, but like in my family, a lot of people in my family die of heart disease really early. Yeah. And when I started with you guys, I had extreme inflammation and they were saying that may or may not be connected to the the hormone issue because my hormones were so out of whack. Yeah. Like there's this period of time where I was so angry because I just felt I did I felt like oh my gosh for years they have literally been gas and they gaslight all women who are going through menopause. So that's part of the process I think of onboarding that you go through this period. I mean I even had a I had a stomach issue when I was working with you guys. That was not why I started. My primary care gave me some kind of I think it was like an antibiotic which made my stomach worse. I came up to you guys, spoke to the doctor up there um to she gave me two supplements and within two months I was fine. Meanwhile, my primary care doc is like oh you might maybe you have colitis, maybe you have food allergies, maybe you need to do all this testing. So that's what I need. I mean I feel for the first time like I trust my providers. That's awesome. What a good feeling, right? especially with your health because your health is like one of those things you don't have it and it's uh really difficult. So we want to protect that with you. So glad to hear that. Yeah. way because all interns big bad stuff all they do is treat the symptom. They don't actually look at anything else. They don't look at the whole system and that's bad. I totally hear you.
