Patient Story
Terry: Less Inflammation, Better Sleep, and Energy Back
Summary
Terry came to Med Matrix after being brushed off by her PCP, who only ran the bare minimum blood work. Working with Colin, she received supplements and nutrition guidance that dramatically reduced her inflammation, restored her sleep (she started dreaming again), and brought her energy back despite working overnight shifts.

- Brushed off by primary care doctor who only ran bare minimum blood work
- Joint pain
- Inflammation so bad she couldn't comfortably cross her legs
- Not sleeping well
- Felt like she was aging fast
- Lacked energy and "get up and go"
Results
- Inflammation significantly reduced
- Can cross her legs comfortably again
- Sleeping much better, started dreaming again
- More energy and motivation to move
- Joints feeling better (still has torn hamstrings healing)
- People notice the visible changes and ask what she did

the weight loss part of it, and just feeling crappy. Can you elaborate on that? I was tired, and when I went to my doctor, they were just you kind of get brushed off, like they do just just the bare minimum of blood work, and all of that. And I'm like, I got to know what's going on with my body. I'm getting older, and I don't want to feel like that anymore. So, basically what led me here was getting brushed off by my doctor. Yeah. And did you How did you end up coming across the clinic? I think I saw it on Facebook. I think it was Facebook that I saw it on. And what made you make that decision before you said, "Okay, I'm going to come here." Was there like a final moment that you said, "All right, I My primary care is not helping me, or I just don't want to feel like this, or was it like you were all built up?" I just don't want to feel like that. And like I said, I was getting older, and knowing going into my my older years, and my joints hurt, and so, yeah. Okay. Yeah. So, and how was that initial visit here? Um very good. Very good. Did you have any experiences with the team, with the process? If you could kind of walk through that like first not your first doctor like provider visit, but your first uh like getting the blood work done, the in body scan, things like that. Yeah, I just came in, and I did all that, and that was interesting to know the in body scan part of it, and and I was excited to get my blood work back to see what was going on there, and And then for your initial provider visit, how did that go? Very good. Very good. He was very thorough. And this is Colin? Yes. Yeah. Yeah, he was very thorough. Um told me what I needed to do, and guided me through that whole thing, and yeah, it was pretty good. Were there any feelings you were having before like before going into the visit, and then compared to the feelings after the visit? You know, I don't think so. I think I was a little bit nervous about going into it. Um but he made me feel real at ease, and yeah, talked me through everything that I needed to do, and During if you can go into I guess your day-to-day life before you started going through treatments, what was that like? I would get up in the morning, and I would still be tired. I work overnight, so that made it a little bit difficult, but he guided me through that all of that. You know, when to take my supplements, and wanting to do everything. I just I just didn't feel feel very good before I started. Do you mind talking about, I guess, your treatment, things that you've kind of with your eyes too, or or things that you didn't know that you know before that you know now? Um You don't have to go into specifics if you don't want to. Um no, I just it's just kind of taught me like healthy eating, healthy part of eating, and um portion sizes, and you know, getting some movement more movement in, trying to get more movement in. And yeah, just it's really helped a lot. I feel less puffy. [laughter] Inflammation down, yeah? Yes, very much so, very much so. It's really interesting the amount of like how we feel being just inflammation. Mhm. You know, it's a very easy quick fix. Yeah, I was talking with a friend of mine and that's what I had said. I said, you know, if nothing else, you feel less inflamed. Yeah, I mean, I can cross my legs and and I don't feel like I'm inflamed. That's amazing. Yeah. And how are your joints feeling like at this point? are feeling better. I still have a little bit of of um other things going on that haven't quite healed yet, but I have some torn hamstrings and stuff like that, so. That's good. It's definitely progress. Um I know we talked about like vitamins and supplements. Do you want to go into how these Do you have like anything that you want to share about these changes and how I guess you're living your days now in comparison to before? Um before I wasn't sleeping very well at all, and he had given me some supplements. Don't ask me which ones, but he had given me some supplements to take, and that has helped quite a bit. I've actually started dreaming when I didn't dream before, so. Yeah, yeah. And what about So, now you're dreaming, you're sleeping better, um and how does that, I guess, impact your life? a lot. Makes me I have a lot more energy. Yeah, a lot more energy. Are you able to do things that you weren't able to do before? Um yeah, I get up and I have some get up and go, and I can walk more, and yeah, yeah, it's helped a lot. It's just helped a lot. Helping with the more movement then when you have the energy to do it Yeah, absolutely. Yep. Yep. Um and then would do you have anything that you want to share about this visit with Colin, how it's different than the visits with other like specialists you've seen? Um just with the blood work, going over the blood work with me and telling me, you know, what my markers were and and all of that. So, it it made me aware of what I was eating and what I was doing. Yeah. Yeah. I know he's big on the carnivore diet, right? So, is that something that you ventured into? Um I was kind of doing the low-carb thing beforehand and um yeah, I don't I don't do a lot of carbs, just enough. I personally want to try it, but yeah, we'll see. I I don't go totally carnivore though. Yeah. How do you feel about your health and the future of your health and your future now than I guess comparison to maybe how you felt before? Much more positive about it, you know, I feel like I'm on the right track and um not aging as fast as I felt like I was. So, yeah, it's helped a lot. It really has. Yeah. Um and then functional medicine, do you have a way that you would describe it? Yeah, I I would much more go the functional route than I would just like just from this experience. I totally believe in the functional part of it rather than popping a bunch of pills and for everything everything you have and that causes a reaction and that one. So, everything was definitely. And how do you feel I guess about maybe besides like the treatment plans, but I know we talk a lot about like philosophy of like root cause and like whole person, whole body. How do you feel about that part of functional medicine? Getting down to the root cause of what's going on and why it's happening in your body is really important. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um and then how would you describe functional medicine to a friend? Um it's just kind of it's kind of amazing, you know, not not having to be popped a bunch of pills and getting the blood work and getting down to what's actually going on in your body and why it's happening and yeah, so I guess that's all I can say about it is it's helped a lot. I've got a friend of mine that's actually thinking about doing it and I just told her it's it's pretty amazing. It really is. if she comes in and if you get a referral. Definitely. I told her like I had said, I said, you know, my biggest thing was this is my health. I can go out and spend a ton of money on clothes or a ton of money on anything else, but this is my health, so it was it's worth it. It's worth it. I was shooting a testimonial either yesterday or the day before um and one of the women I had spoken to she said, "Well, I did the math of all the money that we would spend on the you know, other self-care and specifically health care like supplements and things like that is actually more than what I spend here." Right. You know. Right. Exactly. "Whoa, I wish I had [laughter] known that." Yeah, yeah, and that's basically the way I thought about it is this is my health and it's worth it, so. Um and then for a friend, like let's say the friend that you are currently speaking to about functional medicine, if they're on the fence, what would you say? I would say, "What have you got to lose?" You know, it's you're you're just improving your own health and it's definitely going to help. It's just not it's not going to hurt you, it's going to help you. And what about um any pain points that you might have had or you might think that people have like to make that decision if it's distance, if it's price, if it's time? As far as the time goes, it's really not a lot. You come in and you know, you get your blood work done and then it's um I do call them virtual, so the time wise is didn't take a lot of time to do that. Um and like I said, the money part of it is definitely worth worth it, you know, compared to what you'd spend for your other health conditions that you have, so yeah. Amazing. And is there anything else that you'd want to add? I don't think so. I think it's it's it's just improved. I have I have improved as far as that goes. And people will look at me and go, "What did you do? What did you What have you done?" And I said, "Well, I've actually gone and I went to MedMatrix and it helped it's helped me, you know." It's amazing. Yeah. It really is. Thank you so much, and thank you for sharing your experience, and and honestly for just investing in yourself. Yeah. I'm in a very lucky position where I get to sit and talk to people and see like human
