Patient Story
Lindsay: Weight Loss + Sleeping Through the Night + Energy Back
Summary
Lindsay gained 43 pounds in about 6 months while her PCP kept telling her labs were fine. Two close family members recommended functional medicine, and after researching online she connected with Med Matrix. Working with Colin, she discovered her A1C was raised and her cholesterol and triglycerides were past 300, all against a severe cardiac family history her PCP had never taken seriously. She has since lost weight, stopped a 3-year sleep medication, sleeps through the night, and describes the experience as "life-changing."

I had two really close family members that had had recommended functional medicine. My labs just kept coming back fine my PCP. Mhm. And I just didn't feel good. I had gained quite about 43 lbs in about 6 months. And I just knew something didn't feel right. And I did some research and got directed to Men Matrix and that's kind of how my journey started here. Okay, got you. And what was that like from kind of the getting in touch with us to kind of where we're at now? it was so easy. I online like did some research, read some reviews. I put in an online request and I had a call within the next day. Kind of went over the questionnaire to see if it was going to be a right fit and we just connected from there and we've been together ever since. So, what was Can you explain like the like the care side so like the lab lab appointment, lab draws, and the provider review and all that? Of course. So, I initially came in for my large panel which is fasting. The results were so surprising cuz it was it was great. I felt like there's a lot of things that I've never been tested for. [clears throat] Um so, from there I always have my lab appointment and then my follow-up I see Colin. Mhm. And we just kind of work through our labs and then 3 months later we looked at it again and as we kept going the scale went down, the A1C went down. What was that like working with Colin? I mean, imagine having some extra time. Like what was kind of the what was that like working with Colin? It was great. He definitely very honest, went into this very slow-paced, had great recommendations, great listener. Didn't No question was a silly question and was always there if I had a question. The response time with the team is just always fantastic, so. Yeah. Yeah. What were like some of the like results like that you started to notice? Maybe some of the things you did. What was that like? Yeah. So, I've been on a sleep medication for about 3 years that would just help me stay asleep. Um and now with my medication and taking magnesium, I sleep through the night. I have better clear thought process. I like [clears throat] my job more. I like myself more. I feel better and I'm just more confident which was really a huge part feeling bad and just not being able to move. So, more energy, eat more protein, drinking more water, which I a year ago wouldn't even think I'd be saying that to you. So. Really? Mhm. Wow. Um why do you say that? I just, you know, there got to be this point where I just thought it's cuz I was 43 years old and that's just how I was supposed to feel. And it just didn't feel right. So, when I when Colin had asked me, "What do you like what's your goal?" Mhm. And I I remember saying to him, "I want to want to get out of bed." Mhm. And that we did. That's awesome. Together, yeah. What like what else has that changed, you know, just any of what you mentioned work, but like how has that trickled down effect affected other areas of life? It's definitely helped my personal relationships cuz I have more to give. I felt like I'd get out of work and had nothing to give. I had no I could lay down and go to sleep at 6:00. I didn't want to travel or, you know, see my family, and now I do all those things. I regularly travel. I have better relationships with my friends, and it's been a very positive experience for me. So exciting. Thanks for sharing. How would you describe functional medicine to a friend? Life-changing. Life-changing? Life-changing. Yeah, I get a I get a little emotional about it, but it is life-changing. And that's what I was told, and at that point I said, "What do I have to lose?" That's really cool. Mhm. Yeah, thanks for sharing. Um as far as like how would you describe functional medicine to a friend as far as like the approach and how it differs kind of from, you know, like primary care medicine? I think it's a little bit more where that that you're really being heard. It's, you know, if you do have a concern, they want to sit down and find that root cause. They want to talk you through the process of the medication, if you're hesitant about it, and what the benefits would be. And just you always have your plan in front of you. You know, you get your plan, and then for the next 3 months you work on that, and if there is any question, they're right there to help support. Where primary I felt like I was having my labs done, being told everything was fine, we'll see you in a year. When my A1C was raised, my cholesterol and triglycerides were well past 300 and just not I just feel like it was hurt. The family history was taken very seriously where we have a severe cardiac family history. So that's one thing we target immediately. So yeah. That's awesome. Cool. Is there anything else that you would like to share maybe like what you would kind of recommend to someone who's kind of like going to the normal doctor and just kind of feeling like this is it, you know? Do it. Do it. Do it for yourself because you only get one life. Thank you so much for Yeah, of course. Of course. That was great.
