Patient Story
Linda: PRP and Hormone Support While Managing Lyme
Summary
Linda has Lyme disease along with joint destruction, multiple back surgeries, a total knee replacement, and lasting effects from a motor vehicle accident. After years of jumping between Lyme providers, she found Med Matrix on Facebook and began working with Dr. Rose, who addressed not just her Lyme but also her menopause hormones. PRP injections in her shoulder saved her from surgery.

I have Lyme disease and [clears throat] I also have problems with my joints from it. I've hurt my back. I had a couple back surgeries, a total knee replacement and I'm just really having a hard time like with fatigue and my days are just really rough and every day I'm just, you know, trying to get through it and wondering what am what my day is going to be like from day to day. Some days I can I'm a champion and I can get a lot of stuff done and the next day I'm in bed because my back is killing me or I'm just tired and I can't do anything. And so I was jumping from line provider to line provider to try to get answers and try to figure out what was wrong with me and getting prescribed you know antibiotics and getting prescribed herbal medicine which you know herbal medicine isn't covered under the insurance. So I was really having to pay out of pocket for that and that stuff's expensive. I haven't been working for the last 3 years and I ended up um applying for disability and I got denied twice and went through a hearing and my hearing got denied. So I'm I'm in the process of appealing that because a lot of times during the day I have to take a nap because I'm so fatigued and so I wanted I wanted to take more of a naturopathic approach to to getting well. I didn't want to be on stuff that was going to destroy my health, you know? I wanted to get I wanted to be on stuff that was going to make me better from the inside out. And I just felt like I just feel like they just throw stuff at you because they really don't have a good handle on how to treat Lyme disease and they don't really have a good handle on on how to treat a person, you know, altogether. So I mean they just I like I said I was jumping from lime provider to lime provider to lime provider and not necessarily because I was looking for you know the right answer or the right treatment. A lot of the my p practitioners left, you know, like they would move or disclose their practice or so I had to find, you know, different line providers for that reason. Yeah. Sure. So, like the continuity of care. Yeah. So, what um so yeah, at what point did you then kind of come to Men Matrix and what was that like? Um, so I came to Men Matrix probably over a year ago, I'd say that. And I found it on Facebook. I was, you know, perusing through Facebook and um I saw there was an ad and it said, you know, I looked it up and I read about it and there was a $100 off coupon and I was I was like, well, you know, I I really want to try the naturopathic approach, like I said, and I'm trying to think of the word that they use in this medicine. Functional. Thank you. Functional medicine. I don't know why it wasn't coming to me. And I had a motor vehicle accident, too, a couple of years ago. And I had a I had I fractured both of the orbits of my eyes. Oh, no. Fractured my nose to pieces. and I had a concussion and a head injury. So, some words don't come to me all the time, like I have to think about things. Functional [clears throat] medicine, that word just wasn't coming to me. And that's another thing, you know, I just I really have trouble with um my short-term memory sometimes from my accident. I wanted functional medicine. And so, when I saw that on Facebook, I looked it up and I I said, "I'm going to go because I really want to see what it's like." And it's $100 off. So, I came. You were the first person I met. Um Yeah. you I called and and you called me back and you know we talked about it and you said come on in you know we'll we'll talk about it and we'll see if it's the right fit for you and and so [clears throat and laughter] I did and I had a consult and I did all the lab testing and did you know all that stuff and um we I at the time I was having problems with my with this hand actually I had joint on joint problems with some other areas and we did um some injections and that was helping to cure not cure but you know ease some of the discomfort. Yeah. So I was like, "Wow, this is kind of cool." And so I, you know, as the year went on, we tried some other um functional medicine techniques for some other ailments I had. I've been happy with the, you know, with what's what I've the approaches that we've taken. That's awesome. What were some of the things you did? Some of the things that I did, I had some I was having some rotator cuff problems in the shoulder. This arm has been bothering me. I did end up having surgery in my hand because it ended up the joints were just so destroyed in here. And so my hand's all better now, but this hand's starting to bother me now. And it's it's lime related. Nothing we can do about it. It just destroys the joints. I've been trying to get in to see a rheumatoid arthritis specialist, um, a doctor, but they don't see lime patients cuz it's on the bottom of their list. So, it's so hard to get in to see them. But I had problems with my shoulder. I went to see a specialist and you know the first thing they want to do is surgery and I don't want to like that's like the last Yeah. I I'll try everything else before I want to go through surgery. So I had some injections in my shoulder. That really helped though P what do they call them? PRP. PRP PRP injections in my shoulder and that really helped. And guess what? I don't need surgery. That's awesome. [laughter] Yeah. So cool. What was it like working with um you know Dr. Rose and like just the patient care experience? Yeah. Oh, Dr. Rose is amazing. She is She is so amazing, you know. She is very personable, approaches your care, very one-on-one. She really is. She just she's I don't know. She's so smart. She's just so smart, you know. She's very picks things apart like she and she starts from the initial problem and, you know, just kind of breaks things apart. And of course, I am very complicated. I'm a very complicated patient. So, she can't fix me all in one day. That's for sure. You know, she started from the very beginning and kind of just work tweaked things out and then and so we're working on things over time as time goes on. Before doc seen Dr. Rose, did you ever have a like provider like that or kind of experience like that or what was that like? Not really. I mean, even when I saw my lime providers, that that's kind of the one thing they focused on was just lime. But Dr. Rose kind of focused on several different things, you know, like she was and she knows that I'm in my 50s and not that anybody needed to know that, but um it's the time that that I'm going through menopause and you know, it's the time that I'm is it's hormonal. So, she she was asking me if anybody addressed my my hormone my hormones and that whole thing. So, she did a whole hormone panel and with the labs and she kind of like was like, "Is anybody handling that?" and my obgyn doesn't look at labs. She said I don't you know I don't treat I don't look at labs those are not important to me I treat the patient based on their symptoms kind of like was I don't Dr. Dr. Rose was like, "I don't feel that way. I feel like labs are important and we kind of have to look at the labs." And I was like, and she asked if she could take over my hormone treatment. And I was like, I would love you to because my PCP, my OB/GYN is leaving and I'm seeing a new one. So, and so she took over that. And she started me on, you know, some hormone treatment, which has been working very well for me. So, yeah. So, I'm feeling better from that approach. And I felt like that was kind of going to get shoved under the rug and not get I wasn't going to get the appropriate treatment for that. So that's awesome. Yeah. So I'm feeling better in that approach. What like with the hormones, like what are some of the improvements? Well, I have a little more energy. Not a lot, but a little bit more. You know, I'm growing a beard now. No, I'm just kidding. [laughter] I'm just kidding. No, acne is one of the one things that I started to have that I don't like. But um I think I can talk to Dr. Rose about that and I'm sure we can take care of that today. That's part of, you know, hormone treatment and I'm sure we'll we'll treat that. But some of the other things is, you know, it's increased my libido. That was a really hard thing for my husband and I is that, [clears throat] you know, we weren't having relationships, you know. Sure. Yeah. And and that was like huge for us. And um now we're more intimate. So that helped in that respect. Yeah. Uh I'm trying to think of some other things that [laughter] I know a lot of patients say overall just feel better. Yeah. Just overall overall health kind of whatever it is, it just kind of all plays together. But yeah, that's awesome. What um what is this like customer service been like? You know, with the whole team, like the front desk, the nurses, like support. Yeah. Oh my god. The everybody here has been phenomenal. You know, I've seen Sarah and Brandy and you and Brian and you know, Leah and just [clears throat] everybody has just been so phenomenal. I just I can't complain. I you know, I wouldn't. In fact, if I could come back to work, I would probably come back to work here because I just the group is just great, you know. just a phenomenal group. Thank you. Yeah. What um I guess Yeah. What would your kind of advice be for someone who, you know, is going to their normal doctor and like they're just not getting the help they want or the attention they want? Like Yeah. Yeah. I would I would definitely tell them, you know, to consider coming here and getting a consult and trying it and seeing if it's a good fit for them because I think that anybody who comes here would be totally happy and they would continue to be serviced here because why not, you know? It's I feel better. I I in fact I am I'm going to try to get my dad to come here cuz my dad has just been he's 80 and he thinks he's on his deathbed. He doesn't do anything and he's very [clears throat] healthy, you know, and I and I just feel like he needs somebody to tell him that. That's exciting. Yeah. Yeah. And just needs that needs this approach. So yeah, I'm going to try to get him to come here. That's exciting. Yeah, we can't wait to see him. Um anything else that you would like to add to kind of like for patients who are kind of like curious about Medatrix working with us? Yeah. Well, there's a lot of different approaches, you know, to coming here. It's not, you guys offer a lot of services for people and it's, you know, there's a lot of different things that I wish I had a pamphlet in front of me that I could tell people what you offer. It's not just a one thing that people offer that you offer here. There's, you know, injections. There's I don't know, tell me what are some of the things that you offer because I can't think of them right now. There's a lot. The testing, treatments, peptides, hormones, generative medicine. Yeah. Yeah. What about the I guess category of functional medicine? All these different things that we offer falling in the category of functional medicine overall. What would you what would you recommend to somebody like they say, "Oh, I'm interested in functional medicine and all these things fall on it." What would you say to them? Do you say that differently? Like like you know how all the things that we offer here are functional medicine. So if somebody you were to recommend functional medicine to somebody and it would be all the things that we offer here at Men Matrix, how would you like introduce somebody to that? I guess like one woman said um it's a very broad term and it's like don't be afraid to ask questions. You know what I mean? Oh, for functional. Yeah. How would you That's a good question. Yeah. How would I describe it? How would you describe functional medicine to your dad? Like if you were trying to tell him that. Okay. Yeah, that's a that's a very good question. Very long-winded. Yeah, it's a very good question. I would tell my dad that it's not a service that his PCP would offer. I would tell him that it's something out, you know, outside of the box. Like it's it's not in the box, it's outside of the box. Different services and it's holistic medicine. Yeah. And a lot of it isn't covered by the insurance. probably none of it is covered by the insurance, but there's ways that it he could get it covered and not to worry about the money [laughter] to worry about his body and how he feels having the treatment that he needs to to get up and motivated and feel better and be himself cuz even though he's 81, he still is going to live another 10 years and to get up and move. The services that you offer are different. There's injections and stuff that he could get. He could he and you, you know, you do a whole body service that like you stand on that thing that that measures body fat analysis and muscles and it tells you a whole story about your whole body from head to toe. Yeah. And and it helps to, you know, narrow down where you're going to start to [clears throat] kind of fix somebody that is not something that his normal provider would offer. different in that sense that you guys start fixing somebody from the the huge issue that they're having and work from that, you [clears throat] know, down, I guess. Does that help? Does that make I I couldn't have said it better myself. I [laughter] think you nailed it. That was awesome. Thank you so much.
